Summary of Case:

"Rodney Demetrius Sands was wrongly convicted of two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault in the shooting death of two mena and the wounding of a third in Jefferson Davis County, Mississippi. Sands' codefendant Aqui Demetrius Rhodes was convicted of two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault. Sands' defense was he didn't fire any shots and he was essentially an innocent bystander who was in a different car than Rhodes, who the testimony established actually fired the shots that killed two and wounded one person. Sands was sentenced to 60 years in prison and Sands was sentenced to two terms of life in prison plus 20 years. Sands and Rhodes appealed. On March 3, 2011 the Mississippi Supreme Court sitting en banc vacated Sands' convictions on the basis the prosecution introduced insufficient evidence of his guilt. The ruling became final when the Court denied a rehearing on June 16, 2011. The Supreme Court affirmed all of Rhodes convictions."
