Summary of Case:

"Louis Santos was wrongly convicted in 1985 of being one of three assailants who murdered a woman, based on an eyewitnesses identification. Louis Santos was sentenced to life in prison. Santos' conviction was overturned in 1988 by the Massachusetts' Supreme Judicial Court because Santos identification at police headquarters by a witness was "unduly suggestive" by the police. The SJC ordered Santos' retrial, and he was released on bail pending his retrial. Louis Santos was acquitted after a retrial in 1990. Santos was wrongly imprisoned for three years. In 2005 Louis Santos filed a claim for compensation from the State of Massachusetts under G.L.C. 258D, and his claim was settled in 2007 for $250,000."
