Summary of Case:

"Peter Seeger, more commonly known as Pete Seeger, was wrongly convicted in May 1961 of contempt of Congress for refusing to name people he knew who might be Communists during a hearing on August 18, 1955 of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Seeger was convicted by a jury and he was sentenced to a year in prison. After Seeger had served his sentence his convictions were overturned on appeal in May 18, 1962 by the U.S. Second Circuit Ct. of Appeals. The Court ruled that Seeger's indictment failed to state facts that constituted a crime, and ordered dismissal of his indictment."
