Summary of Case: |
"Ivan Seranno and Alfredo Domenech were codefendants wrongly convicted in 1988 of the first-degree murder of Juan "Junior" Martinez on May 29, 1987. Martinez was shoton a street corner in Kensington (Philadelphia). Both men were sentenced to life in prison. After the men had been imprisoned for more than a decade a witness came forward, and at a 2002 post-conviction hearing he testified that Martinez had been shot during a drug dispute, that he was present, and that neither Seranno or Domenech was present. Three years later, in October 2005, a state judge granted the men a new trial after determining the witness was credible, and the District Attorney's Office then made a motion to nullify the men's convictions and drop charges against them. The men were released on November 1, 2006, after 18 years of wrongful imprisonment." |
