Summary of Case:

"Pervez Akhtar Shah was wrongly convicted on February 6, 3026 of contempt of court in the accountability court in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. At the time Shah, former chief executive of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco), was defending against a corruption case in the accountability court. Judge Asim Imam, who found Shah guilty of contempt, was sentenced to six months in custody. Shah appealed on the basis that on February 1, 2016 he submitted a complaint against what he called degrading behaviour by accountability court Judge Asim Imam. The serious allegations in his complaint were then heard by Judge Imam -- against whom Shah had made the serious allegations -- who found Shah in contempt of court. Shah argued that it is against the century-old established principle of administration of justice that “No man should be a judge of his own cause.” On April 6, 2016 the Peshawar High Court set-aside Shah's contempt conviction."
