Summary of Case:

"Sultan Shah was wrongly convicted in 1994 of conspiracy to import heroin. Shah was sentenced to ten years in prison. His conviction was affirmed two years later. He was imprisoned more than five years in custody before his release in 1999. In November 2010 England's Court of Appeals quashed Shah's conviction based on new evidence that the trial judge had been misled to believe the prosecution had attempted to trace three vital prosecution witnesses as justification for them not testifying, when no such steps had been taken."
