Summary of Case:

"Irshad Kamruddin Shaikh, Ayub Alimuddin Shaikh, and Bakar Shaikh were co-defendants wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery of Mani Ratnam Jewellers in February 2001 in Malad, India. The three were young men at the time of their arrest on February 16, 2001 several pistols and ammunition were seized from them. The three were also convicted of possessing firearms without a license. The three men were sentenced to ten years in prison. In November 2013 the Bombay High Court set-aside the conspiracy convictions of the three and acquitted them because thereis no evidence to show that the accused had conspired to commit robbery of the jewelry shop, Justice Sadhna Jadhav wrote in the Court's ruling, "It can therefore be inferred that the prosecution has failed to establish the charge against the accused." The appeals court upheld the convictions of the three for possession of firearms without a license."
