Summary of Case: |
"Charles Shepherd was codefendant of Anthony Faison. Both men were convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison based on a mistaken eyewitness identification. Shepard and Faison were exonerated by fingerprints that didn't match those of the confessed killer found at the crime scene of a cab driver's murder on March 14, 1987. Shepherd was awarded $1,650,000 in compensation in January 2003 for 14 years of wrongful imprisonment by the New York State Court of Claims. Shepherd also filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of New York, which was settled for $380,000 in 2003." |
