Summary of Case: |
"Yoneya Shirô was wrongly convicted on May 31, 1952 of raping and murdering a woman in 1952 by the Sendai High Court. Shirô was sentenced to ten years in prison in August 1953. After the actual culprit was apprehended Shiro filed for a retrial in August 1957 with the Aamori District Court. The application was rejected in March 1973. Shirô appealed and it was granted by the Sendai High Court in October 1976, and in July 1978 Shiro was found not guilty after a retrial.
