Summary of Case:	"Forest Shomberg was wrongly convicted in 2003 of committing a sexual assault in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2002. Shomberg's conviction was based on the victim's eyewitness identification. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Based on new evidence Shomberg's conviction was vacated in November 2009 and the Milwaukee DA's Office subsequently filed a motion to dismiss the charge. On April 27, 2011 Shomberg filed a claim with the Wisconsin Claims Board for $102,500 -- compensation of $25,000 and $77,500 for legal fees related to the appeal of his conviction. On December 12, 2012 the Board unanimously denied Shomberg's claim. Shomberg appealed and on June 8, 2013 the Eau Clair County Circuit Court issued a decision remanding his claim to the Claims Board for determination of an amount that "will equitably compensate" Shomberg. Shomberg was 49 when he died several weeks before his claim was scheduled to be reconsidered during the Board's September 11, 2013 meeting. Shomberg's mother retained a lawyer to pursue her son's claim in the name of his estate. On April 30, 2014 the Claims Board awarded Shomberg's estate $20,000 compensation for his wrongful imprisonment and legal fees of $77,500, for a total of $97,500. "
