Summary of Case:	"Steve Shreffler was wrongly convicted in August 2013 of three firearm related charges in Piatt County, Illinois. After his conviction following a bench (judge only) trial, Shreffler was sentenced to serve 180 days in jail to be followed by 24 months probation. Shreffler appealed, with one his arguments being that his three convictions were based on the prosecution's reliance on the erroneous measuring of the length of the three firearms involved. On August 4, 2014 the Illinois Fourth District Court of Appeals reversed all of Shreffler's convictions based on the prosecution's failure to introduce evidence proving his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The Court agreed that the length of Shreffler's firearms did not violate the law. The Court's ruling stated: "We also note that because the evidence presented at trial was insufficient to sustain defendant's convictions, double jeopardy prohibits a retrial.""
