Summary of Case:

"Winston Silcott was co-defendant of Mark Braithwaite and Engin Raghip. The three men were wrongly convicted of murdering a man during the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham, north of London in 1985. Court of Appeals quashed the conviction in 1991 as unsafe because the police tainted the evidence used against him. Awarded £17,000 in compensation for his wrongful conviction, and then in 1999 was awarded an additional £50,000 compensation by London's Metropolitan Police for its role in his wrongful conviction."
