"Peter Simpson was wrongly convicted in February 2006 of aggravated assault when he bit off part of the ear of a man who attacked him on a bus in Edinburgh in March 2005. Peter Simpson's girl-friend and her daughter were with him on the bus, and he claimed self-defense of both him and them from the man. The jury rejected Peter Simpson's self-defense claim, and after his conviction he was sentenced to six years in prison. On February 27, 2009 the Court of Criminal Court in Edinburgh overturned Simpson's conviction."
