"Balwant Singh and Bhupinder Singh were codefendants wrongly convicted of two counts of sedition for raising banners in public with slogans on the day India's Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated on October 31, 1984. The three slogans were: "Khalistan Zindabaad"; "Raj Karega Khalsa"; and, "Hinduan Nun Punjab Chon Kadh Ke Chhadange, Hun Mauka Aya Hai Raj Kayam Karan Da." Both Singh's were sentenced to 1 year in prison and a fine of Rs. 500 for each count. On March 1, 1995 the Supreme Court of India quashed the convictions of the Singhs."
