"Ajeet Singh, Jagdish Kour and Prem Singh were codefendants wrongly convicted in 2005 of the murder in the death of Jaspal Singh on August 17, 1999 in Jammu, India. After their conviction Singh, Kour and Singh were sentenced to life imprisonment. On February 21, 2018 a Division Bench of the State High Court of Jammu and Kashmir set-aside the convictions of Ajeet Singh, Jagdish Kour and Prem Singh on the basis the prosecution failed to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The panel of Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur ruled: "It is evident from the above discussion, that there are many missing links and the chain of circumstances which could have connected the appellants with the commission of murder of the deceased Jaspal Singh is far from complete. There is serious doubt with regard to the prosecution case. The benefit of such doubt must, therefore, go to the appellants.""
