Summary of Case:	"Rajinder Singh was wrongly convicted on August 11, 2016 of raping a woman in India. Singh's prosecution was based on the testimony of the woman that she had been tricked into having sex because she believed they were going to be married. Singh's defense was the sex was consensual and they had discussed marriage. After his conviction by the Fast Track Court, Singh was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 rupees (abt US$749). Singh appealed. On April 27, 2019 the Jammu High Court set aside Singh's conviction on the basis the prosecution failed to introduce evidence proving Singh's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The High Court noted that based on the complainant's testimony there is no question her and Singh were in a relationship. The ruling stated: "After the sexual contact, come talk about marriage had cropped up between the two. Thus, it also cannot be said that the consent for sexual intercourse had been given by the prosecutrix under some misconception of marriage. ... Statement of victim does not inspire confidence of court. This appeal is allowed and impugned judgment of conviction and order of sentences, are set aside. Appellant be set free, if not required in any other case.""
