Summary of Case:

"Wrongly convicted in 1931 of the armed robbery of about $50 from an auto garage in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 18, 1931. George Slyter was convicted based on the eyewitness identification of the robbed man who was certain he was one of the two robbers. Slyter's alibi was he was that at the time of the crime he was at a St. Patrick's Day party with his mother and sister. The jury disregarded his alibi and convicted him after deliberating for several hours. Slyter had the record of an attempted robbery conviction, so at his sentencing he was expected to be given a sentence of 10 to 80 years in prison. The night before Slyter's sentencing the garage was again robbed by the same person that the witness had identified was Slyter. Based on the new evidence the prosecution made a motion for the striking of Slyter's conviction. Slyter was freed when the judge granted the prosecution's motion."
