"Frank Lee Smith was posthumously exonerated by DNA tests in December 2000 of the rape and murder of an 8 year old girl in Broward County, FL. Frank Lee Smith was erroneously identified by three witnesses who only had brief glances of the killer and no physical evidence linked him to the crime. Smith also falsely confessed. He died in prison in January 2000 of pancreatic cancer. Both Smith and the victim were black. As of May 2014 Smith has not been officially exonerated by a court or an executive pardon." |
