Summary of Case:	"Larry Thomas Smith was wrongly convicted in 1976 of aggravated murder in Summit County, Ohio. Smith's prosecution was based on his identification by the victim's wife. Smith's alibi defense was supported by several witnesses. After his conviction by a jury Larry Smith was sentenced to life in prison. In 1978 the Summit County Sheriff's Department reopened Smith's case, and discovered evidence implicating another man. Based on the new evidence Smith filed a petition for a new trial that was granted. The new evidence was presented to the jury during Smith's retrial in 1980, and he was acquitted. Smith was released after more than four years in prison. On September 18, 1986 Smith filed a wrongful imprisonment compensation claim with the Ohio Board of Claims that was dismissed on April 19, 1988. On September 2, 1988 Smith filed a successive compensation claim with the Ohio Board of Claims that was settled on April 27, 1992 for $190,936.70. The Summit County DA stipulated that Smith had been wrongly imprisoned after his conviction for 1,507 days."
