Summary of Case:	"Tremaine S.Smith was wrongly convicted in February 2011 of attempted robbery in New Haven County, Connecticut when he tried on November 30, 2009 to retrieve from his ex-girlfriend $294 he had mailed to her while he was in jail so she could hire him a lawyer or obtain him a bail bond. Smith confrontation with his ex-girlfriend was witnessed by several people. He was charged with attempt to commit robbery in the first-degree and arrested on February 3, 2010. Smith was held in custody, unable to post bail, to the time of his trial in February 2011. After his conviction by a jury Smith was sentenced on April 15, 2011 to 11 years in prison. The Connecticut Court of Appeal reversed Smith's conviction on the basis the prosecution failed to prove the $294 he attempted to retrieve did not belong to him, so he couldn't have committed robbery. The State appealed, and on June 22, 2015 the Connecticut Supreme Court affirmed the appeals courts ruling,reversing Smith's conviction, and added the additional ground that the State introduced insufficient evidence to establish Smith attempted to take anything other than his $294. The ruling bars Smith's retrial under double jeopardy."
