"Walter Snyder Jr. was wrongly convicted in 1986 of rape and sexual assault based on the victim's identification.The incident occured in October 1985 in Alexandria, Virginia. Walter Tyrone Snyder Jr. was sentenced to 45 years in prison. in 1992 DNA tests unavailable at the time of Snyder's trial excluded him as the assailant. On April 23, 1993 Governor L. Douglas Wilder granted Walter Tyrone Snyder, Jr., an absolute pardon for his 1986 conviction on the five counts of rape and sexual assault. Snyder was released later that day after seven years and four months of incarceration from his January 1986 arrest. On February 13, 1996 Virginia's legislature awarded Snyder compensation of $8,400."
