"Darlene Span and her brother Jerry Span were codefendants wrongly conivcted in 1990 of assaulting two U.S. Marshalls in 1988. They were convicted based on the testimony of the U.S. Marshalls. Darlene was sentenced to 3 months house arrest and $6,000 fine, while Jerry was sentenced to 4 months house arrest and $1,000 fine. 'In February 1996 the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals granted Darlene Span's pro se petition for a writ of coram nobis and vacated the Spans' convictions based on the new photographic evidence taken by their 72-year-old mother it was the Spans who were assaulted by the U.S. Marshalls and not vice-a-versa.
