Summary of Case: |
"Johnson Sserubiri was wrongly convicted in January 2003 of an April 2001 murder in his village of a man who he had threatened for supposedly bewitching his father before he died. Johnson's conviction was solely based on the threats, since there was no witness or any physical or forensic evidence linking him to the murder. In June 2007 Uganda's Court of Appeal quashed Johnson's conviction and ordered his acquittal on the basis that a suspicion Johnson might have committed the crime was insufficient evidence to support his conviction. He was released later that day after six years of wrongful imprisonment." |
