Summary of Case:	"Takao Sugiyama and Shoji Sakurai were co-defendants. Both men were convicted in October 1970 of the October 1967 robbery and murder of a 62-year-old carpenter. The men's convictions were based on their confessions after intense interrogations, and their identifcation by an eyewitness. Sugiyama and Sakurai were sentenced to life in prison. They were released on parole in 1996. Sugiyama and Sakurai were acquitted on May 24, 2011 by the Mito District Court in Tsuchiura, Japan. The two men were incarcerated for 29 years from the time of their arrest in 1967."
