"Job Sweet was wrongly convicted on January 21, 1882 of committing rape in Berkshire County, Massachusetts in 1881. Sweet's prosecution was based on the identification testimony of his alleged victim. After his conviction by a superior court jury Sweet was sentenced to six years in prison. While Sweet was imprisoned his accuser recanted her testimony, The Berkshire County District Attorney supported Sweet's pardon. On March 5, 1884 Job Sweet was granted a full pardon by Massachusetts Governor George D. Robinson based on the new evidence he had been falsely accused of rape."
