"John Fife Symington was wrongly convicted of bank fraud in 1999 when he was governor of Arizona. John Symington was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. Symington was forced to resign as governor, but he was allowed to remain free on bond pending the outcome of his appeal. On June 22, 1999 the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned his conviction because the trial judge had improperly dismissed a juror who was creating a hung jury by voting to acquit Symington. In January 2001 President William Clinton pardoned Symington." |
