"Michael J. Synon was wrongly convicted in 1900 of murdering his wife. After his conviction by a jury, Michael Synon was sentenced to death. In 1902 Synon's conviction was overturned on appeal because of prejudicial remarks by his trial judge. During Synon's retrial his lawyers presented several witnesses who corroborated his alibi of being four miles from the scene of his wife's murder. The jury acquitted Synon and he was released after two years imprisonment."
