Summary of Case:

"Gregory Taylor was wrongly convicted in 1993 of murder based on the prosecutor's 17 false statements to the jury that blood matching the victim's blood type was found in his truck. Greg Taylor was sentenced to life in prison. Based on a reinvestigation of his case it was discovered that the blood tests in 1993 were negative for the victim's blood in Taylor's truck, but the lab didn't inform the prosecutors of that fact, although they were imputed to to have knowledge of the reports. Based on the Brady violation of the exclusionary biological evidence the prosecution failed to disclose, Taylor's conviction was overturned and he was released on February 18, 2010. After his pardon by North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue on May 21, 2010, he was awarded $750,000 compensation by the State of North Carolina. Taylor's exoneration was the first credited to the North Carolina Innocence Commission after more than three years of operation. Taylor filed a federal civil rights lawsuit whose defendants included the State of North Carolina. In August 2013 Taylor and the State agreed to settle the lawsuit for $4.625 million. "
