Summary of Case:	"Tyrone Taylor was 19 when he was convicted in 1999 of the theft of an $800 computer in August 1998 from the Staples in Lafayette, Indiana where he worked. Taylor was sentenced to probation. In 2015 the class D felony conviction was reduced to a class A misdemeanor. On November 18, 2019 a Tippecanoe Superior Court judge granted Taylor's petition to expunge his misdemeanor conviction in an Order that stated he was to be treated as if he "had never been convicted of the offense." Taylor was appointed to the Dayton, Indiana town council in 2015. A challenged to his eligibility to serve on the council based on his criminal record was rejected by the Tippecanoe County Election Board in October 2019. After his election on November 5, 2019, the losing candidate filed a court challenge to his eligibility to be on the ballot because of his criminal record. Taylor subsequentely filed and was granted the expungement."
