Summary of Case:

"Alexander Tenney was wrongly convicted in May 1883 of breaking and entering in Suffolk County, Massachusetts in 1883. After his conviction Tenney was sentenced to 18 months in prison. During a pardon board hearing the officer who arrested Downey testified that he was so completely intoxicated that he had no reasonable comprehension of his conduct, and he had never been in legal trouble before. Tenney's intoxicated state prevented him from having criminal intent. On August 13, 1884 Alexander Tenney was granted a full pardon by Massachusetts Governor George D. Robinson based on the recommendation of the Pardon Board."
