Summary of Case:	"Damon Thibodeaux was wrongly convicted in 1997 of the July 1996 rape and murder of his half-cousin. Thibodeaux's conviction was based largely on his recanted confession, and the testiony of an eyewitness that he was seen pacing near where her body was found. He was sentenced to death. A reinvestigation of his case begun in 2007 that cost more than $500,000 determined that his "confession" differed from the crime in every significant detail, and DNA testing failed to identify either Thibodeaux's semen or his DNA on the wire used to tie the victim. A DNA profile obtained from a tiny sample of blood recovered on a piece of wire used to strangle the victim didn’t match Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux was released in September 2012 after more than 15 years on death row, in Angola and more than 16 years after his arrest."
