"Jack Thompson was wrongly convicted on February 26, 2006 of two terrorism related charges of receiving funds from al-Qaeda. Jack Thomas was convicted of receiving $3,500 (1,858 pounds) and a plane ticket from al-Qaeda. On August 18, 2006 Victoria's Court of Appeal overturned his conviction based the inadmissibility of the evidence relied on by the jury to find Thomas guilty. The Court ordered a new trial and ordered Thomas' release on bail pending his retrial. Jack Thomas was acquitted on October 22, 2008 of the terrorism charges after a retrial." |
