Victor Thomas was convicted based on the victim's testimony and he was sentenced to three life sentences. Post-conviction DNA testing excluded Thomas as the woman's assailant, and his charges were dismissed and he was released from prison on June 27, 2001. Thomas was pardoned by Texas Governor Rick Perry on April 17, 2002. On September 5, 2003 the State of Texas awarded Thomas compensation, that eventually totaled a lump sum of $391,666.64 plus a $6,909.37 monthly annuity."
