Summary of Case:

"Meir Tobianski was wrongly convicted of treason after an Israeli military tribunal in a deserted schoolhouse on June 30, 1948 and summarily executed. Tobianski was not allowed to have a lawyer, compel the testimony of witnesses or appeal his conviction or sentence. Tobianski was convicted on the basis of faulty information that he had provided the Jordan military with information for the for artillery shelling of Israel positions. In 1949 Israel's Military Advocate General ordered a review of Tobianski's case to be a part of an investigation of Isser Be'eri, the first head of the Israeli Defense Forces Intelligence Branch. Tobianski was exonerated by the inquiry that discovered among other things that Be'eri had ordered preparations for the firing squad before Tobianski's trial had even begun. Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, issued a public exoneration of Tobianski on July 5, 1949."
