"Eddie Triplett was wrongly convicted in 1998 of possessing cocaine in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a repeat offender, Triplett was sentenced to life in prison without parole under Louisiana's habitual offender law. In September 2011 U.S. District Court Judge Helen "Ginger" Berrigan granted Triplett's federal habes corpus petition and vacated his conviction and ordered a new trial. In November 2011 the motion by the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office to dismiss the charges was granted, and Triplett was released. In 2013 Triplett was awarded a lump sun of $250,000 under Louisiana's wrongful imprisonment compensation statute."
