Summary of Case:

"Alan Turing was granted a posthumous pardon under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy on December 24, 2013 for his 1952 conviction of gross indecency for having a sexual relationship with a 19-year-old man. Turing, 39 at the time, accepted a sentence of chemical castration in place of a term of imprisonment, and he had the continuing obligation to take synthetic oestrogen to suppress his libido. Turing was a mathematician who is often described as the "father of computer science." During WWII Turing worked as a cryptanalyst at Bletchley Park where he developed the machine that deciphered the Enigma codes used by German U-boats. Turing conviction resulted in the loss of his security clearance so he was no longer able to work sensitive government projects, and he was barred from entering the United States. Turing died in June 1954 after reportedly eating a cyanide-laced apple. An inquest found Turing died from cyanide poising and concluded he committed suicide. In 1936 Turing devised and explained the idea of a computational device – which he called an “automatic machine” – capable of resolving any algorithm. Turing's work laid the groundwork for the theory of modern computing. In 1999 Time Magazine named Turing as one of the 100 most important people of the 20th century."
