Turner owned a pub, the Golden Cup in Yoxall, Burton-On-Trent, England. He was fined £500. Turner appealed and the Stafford Crown Court which affirmed his conviction and ordered him to pay £19,294 in costs. Turner then appealed to England's High Court which on March 1, 2011 quashed his conviction on the basis the Stafford Crown Court had not considered the impact of European Union law on the case. The High Court ordered the lower courts to repary Turner's fine and assessment for costs."
