The Twitchell's were sentenced to 10 years probation. On August 11, 1993 the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court reversed the Twitchell's convictions on the basis the jury wasn't presented with the affirmative defense that the parents could have reasonably believed that they were justified in relying on spiritual treatment for their child instead of medical treatment."
