Summary of Case:

"Ray Valentine was wrongly convicted on January 17, 2014 of the misdemeanors of evading and resisting a police officer in Concord, California on July 14, 2013. After his conviction by a jury, Valentine was sentenced to serve 110 days in jail, with credit for the 55 days he had served before trial. He was released in February 2014. Four months later the arresting officer pled no contest to stealing prescription drugs from seniors. Valentine appealed his conviction. In March 2015 the California Court of Appeals reversed Valentine's conviction and ordered dismissal of the charges, without oppostion by the Contra Costa DA's Office. On June 19, 2015 the Contra Costa DA's Motion to dismiss the charges was granted. In March 2016 Valentine filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Concord and one of its police officers for violating his constitutional rights and using excessive force for allowing a police dog to "maul" him without cause."
