"Alfonso Plazas Vega was wrongly convicted in 2010 of aggravated forced disappearance of the employees of the cafeteria of Bogota's Palace of Justice during a shoot-out with guerrillas on April 19, 1985. Colonel Vega was the Colombian military officer who led the recovery operation of the courthouse. Vega was detained in custody in 2007. Vega was found guilty after a bench trial by Third Judge Specializing in Bogota, Maria Stella Jara, who sentenced Vega to 30 years in prison on June 9, 2010.
