"Jesus Martin Vela was wrongly convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm in Midland County, Texas. Vela was sentenced to three years' imprisonment based on his agreement to pled guilty. Vela subsequently filed a writ of habeas corpus based on him learning that he in fact did not legally possess a firearm. The State agreed Vela was entifled to habeas relief. On January 13, 2016 the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted Vela's writ of habeas corpus and set-aside his conviction." |
