Summary of Case:	"Kieran Vella was wrongly convicted in 2014 of disobeying, insulting and assaulting police officers at about 4:30 a.m. December 21, 2013 in Paceville, Malta. Vella's prosecution was based on the officer's assertion that he squirted the officers with a water bottle, and that after his arrest he disobeyed and insulted the officers in the police station. Vella's defense was that he distractedly walked into one of the police officers, and that he was intoxicated so he didn't know what he was saying to the officers. After his conviction Vella was sentenced to 4 months in prison suspended for 1 year. In October 2016 the Malta Court of Appeal overturned Vella's convictions on the basis, "...in this case, events do not appear to have warranted the charges," and there was no evidence to support the charge of failing to obey legitimate orders."
