Summary of Case: |
Darren William Venn was wrongly convicted in August 2006 of causing grievous bodily harm in April 2006 to an 18-year-old prisoner at the jail where he was a guard. Venn claimed he acted in self-defense when the prisoner became violent. In May 2007 the Court of Appeal quashed Venn's conviction on the basis that the trial judge erred by not dismissing the charges at the conclusion of the government's case because they had presented insufficient evidence to legally support a conviction. |
