A reinvestigation of his case by the Kings County District Attorney's Office resulted in new evidence supporting he was erroneously identified. Vera was released on January 27, 2000 from prison, and two weeks later, on February 10, 2010, his convictions were vacated and a motion by the DA's Office to dismiss his indictment was granted. Vera was awarded $640,000 in compensation by the New York Court of Claims in 2008."
