Summary of Case:

"Eric Volz was wrongly convicted in February 2007 of murdering an ex-girlfriend in November 2006 in in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. His alibi, supported by numerous witnesses, was he was in Managua, two hours (about 85 miles) from the town where the woman, a native Nicaraguan, was murdered. Volz, and American living in Nicaragua, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In December 2007 the Nicaraguan Court of Appeals overturned Volz's conviction on the basis of insufficent evidence of his guilt, and ordered his immediate release. Volz was released from prison on December 21, 2007 and was immediately flown out of the country to Atlanta, Georgia where his parents live. Volz was wrongly imprisoned for 13 months."
