Summary of Case:

"Quedellis Ricardo Walker was wrongly convicted of murder. Rick Walker was sentenced to life in prison. Based on new scientific evidence Walker's conviction was awarded a new trial and the charges were then dismissed by the Santa Clara County DA. Walker was released on June 9, 2003. The day of his release an Assistant District Attorney Karyn Sinunu told a crowd of reporters outside the courthouse, "Rick Walker is factually innocent. There's some scientific evidence that indicates beyond any doubt that he's factually innocent," Walker was awarded $421,000 in compensation on September 19, 2003 by the State of California for 12 years of wrongful imprisonment. Quedellis Walker filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Santa Clara County, which agreed in 2007 to pay him $2.75 million to settle the suit. Walker was paid a total of $3,171,000 in compensation."
