Summary of Case:	"John Wachira Wandia was wrongly convicted in 2003 of the 1999 late-night robbery of patrons in a bar in Othaya, Kenya. The robbers were armed with knives and a rifle. One of the patrons was wounded by a stab wound. John Wandia was convicted after a bench trial of being the robber who stabbed the patron. Wandia's conviction was based on his "confession" which he tesfified was forced from him by the police, and his identification by three of the robbery victims, which Wandia argued was unreliable considering the poor light in the bar and the dim outside security light. Wandia was sentenced to death. Wandia's conviction was overturned by The Court of Appeal of Kenya at Nyeri on November 3, 2006, based on his unreliable confession that was relied on by the trial judge to assume the witness' identification of Wandia were reliable."
