"James Ward was wrongly convicted of theft on January 9, 1991 in Cleveland, Ohio. After his conviction by a jury Ward was sentenced to 1 year in prison. Ward appealed. In July 1991 the Ohio Court of Appeals reversed Ward's conviction on the basis the prosecution failed to introduce sufficient evidence during his trial to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The charges were ordered dismissed. Ward filed a claim for compensation under Ohio's wrongful imprisonment statute. On December 15, 1993 the Ohio Court of Claims awarded Ward a total of $18,512.66 (which included approx. $5,900 in costs and attorney fees."
