Summary of Case: |
"Mark Amos Webb was wrongly convicted in 1987 of the 1985 abduction and rape of a woman who identified Webb from a photo lineup and then made an in court identification. The prosecution also relied on serology (blood test) results that could not exclude Mark Webb as the perpetrator. Webb presented an alibi defense, supported by several witnesses, that he was at work at the time of the assault. Webb was paroled in 1997, but violated his parole. DNA testing was performed under Texas' new postconviction DNA statute, and in 2001 Webb was freed from prison and the charges were dismissed. Webb has been paid $289,583 in compensation by the State of Texas as of 2012." |
