Summary of Case:

"Angela Weeks was wrongly convicted in 2001 of felony child neglect for allegedly not providing proper dental care for her 7-year-old son from January to March 2001. Angela Weeks was sentenced to 3 years probation. She appealed and one of her grounds was the State failed to introduce sufficient evidence she violated the law. The prosecution did not introduce any evidence that the condition of her child's teeth "could reasonably be expected" to result in serious injury as required by the child neglect law. No dentist testified in this case, and no one testified as to what "could reasonably be expected" from the condition of her son's teeth. On December 27, 2002, Florida's 2nd District Court of Appeal overturned Weeks' conviction and ordered that the trial court enter a judgment of acquittal, based on insufficient evidence she had committed a crime."
